Review: Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT vs Autel MaxiCOM MK908P

Today I’m going to review two of Autel MaxiCOM system devices which a lot of people search for when buying a diagnostic scanner.

So the first one we’re going to review is the Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT against Autel MaxiCOM MK908P. One of them does programming coding, and one of them is just for your basic diagnostics and normal functions.

Autel Mk808bt

Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT

Appearance:

Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT, this is the tool that I keep out openly in my garage always ready to use and I carry it around me. Inside we’ve got MK808BT, also some adapter plugs. The device is steady, got rugged grips so I can hold if sweating. I’ve also got the Bluetooth dongle which powers in to the car to connect with the device. I know another version with the wire coming out the top and plugging into the car (Autel MaxiCOM MK808) but I don’t like a wired one. I also got the kickstand so I can place it anywhere and do my diagnostics.

Functions:

Diagnostics, service, shop manager…if we go into “diagnostics”, we’ll see the cars it can do. This does support VIN so we’ll be able to check it by the VIN which is really good. In a service, we can do all the functions like BMS, brake bleed, injectors…this does everything for half the price as workshops, no license needed. You’ll never be limited once you’ve paid for the device, it’s completely yours for free. If you bought it now you’ve scanned all 2020 and 2021 cars, and they always update the device. This is small, portable, and easy. The case is very tiny, fits in cars or elsewhere. That’s what I like about this.

Autel MaxiCOM MK908P

Appearance:

Now the next one. Massive Autel MK908P. This is a professional tool, mainly used for workshops or locksmith. We’ve got all the adapters for all the cars, Audi, Benz, BMW etc. The license runs around 800USD every year. If you benefit from it, it’s worth it. We’ve got the power pack, other dongle bits, the inspection camera which is very rare to get. We also get the J2534, which is excellent for programming, constantly updates and gets the latest coding and program file. I’ve also got the cloud data backup on this. On the back are the camera and the kickstand.

Functions:

It’s a completely different layout. This one can also do the ADAS calibration. All service functions: Oil reset, EPB, TPMS…everything you possibly want. Go to diagnostics, this is bi-directional because this will go into all the DME gearbox reset the adaption. This is the top device possibly. If you don’t pay for the license, you’ll still be able to diagnose and do the hot functions. The only downfall is that you won’t be able to program and code. So if you bought this in…like 2019, you only get a year to do everything up to 2020. In all fairness, the license is worth it for me and I think it’s even cheaper for a shop or a locksmith. Many use it for BMW, Benz programming, but a lot of people don’t realize the potential. It’s very expensive, but if you want something to outlast for many years and you just need one scan tool that does all, this is the best one.

Summary:

So now you’re probably asking me which one I recommend. The one I would recommend would obviously be MK908P for workshop use. If you’re doing a lot of cars like me and always get asked to do programming and coding, it’s really for you. If you’re DIY and just want it to repair your own car, diagnose your car, don’t want to get it into programming, encoding, then  MK808BT is a great tool to have. This is 400-pound one, it does your diagnostics and whatever else. However, it’s not bi-directional, this does not do programming and coding like MK908P.

Therefore, it depends on your needs. If you don’t want limits, then MK908P. If you just want to diagnose, MK808BT is a great system, portable and cheap.
